norwegian producer thomas urv drops the småskansen ep on his own ploink imprint this april. one of norways leading techno prospects, thomas urv has promoted and played at countless events across the country featuring the likes of jeff mills, juan atkins, derrick may, carl cox, richie hawtin, robert hood and kevin saunderson. when not delivering his three deck performances across scandinavia, spain, france, holland, canada and the uk (for fabric and bestival) the norse producer is firmly focused on ploink and his studio activities. *fuktig sol* leads the ep and is a sinister cut led by a morose hook and syncopated rhythm whilst whirring atmospherics add to a looming tension. the dark undertones continue in *stell/less* although steady kicks construct a vibe better suited towards peak time dancefloor madness. tying up the release *sånn isbre* delivers a frenzy of layered sounds that evolve over the course of a lengthy 16 minutes.

fresh from the release of their very first lp, here is an ultra rare repress coming from mid-nineties usa via one of the paris finest new labels, lazare hoche records. the bossman himself lazare hoche is an avid collector of rare house joints, and has a penchant for anything the truly epitomises the spirit of house music, raw, undiluted and full of funk. unlike some collectors who never reveal their secrets, lazare hoche decided to share his knowledge of those hard-to-find tracks of the past with this new release, and so acquired the license for three tracks by the cult duo nimbus quartet grouping them all together in a special vinyl-only reissue.

to keep people guessing, the fifth instalment from australia s best selling people must jam label takes things in a house direction with andy ash at the controls. andy has put through an immense ep of varying house flavours to satisfy an all tastes. the ep kicks of with the monster disco vibed hurricane fantasy track. a beautiful summery looper that s sure to keep the floors burning hot! move is one of andy s straight up house cuts - which he is becoming well known for, a deep sounding organ line carrying the track forward with stabs and a nice little vocal sample to boot. mixing things up a little on the flip, our good friend - ron basejam has provided a sublime adriatic excursion remix of move . ron takes the track to a totally different place with uplifting piano lines and orchestral string stabs building to a lovely crescendo. this remix should be earmarked for croatia 2015. finally dommah takes the ep into almost techno territory with building pads and solid beats resulting in a monster track for when the strobelight pulses and the heads go down!

this four track ep kicks off with cladistic mutation , a sparse underwater soundtrack with only the gentlest suggestion of rhythm, lots of reverb and tiny little details that float by like micro-bacterial debris. m2 is a more beat driven dub track but is still way below the surface: the kicks are smooth and hunched over, the chords are smeared out in all directions and the atmosphere is lo-fi and grainy. on the flip, grain gets even more energetic, with firm techno kick drums setting a stern tempo as all sorts of aqueous details and spacious effec ts peppe r the groove. there s a heavenly nature to the pads and an industrial texture to the percussion that makes this a cerebral but physical affair from start to finish. lastly, neurowaves closes things down in blissfully dubbed out and horizontal fashion, with large sweeping pads, tweaked filters and evocative little details all placing you firmly under water.

herva, of delsin, kontra, mos and all city fame, offers another set of forward-thinking dancefloor bombs. across four tracks this young italian demonstrates his unique interpretation of the past and the future again and again. herva is the artist name of herve atsè corti. he was born in 1991, and has been surrounded by music from the beginning thanks to his family. he made a reputation for himself early on at high school as a talented drummer, but, intrigued by electronic music he decided to start making his own beats with a laptop. a few years later bosconi records released his early productions, both as herva both and as lifes track (a side project with dukwa). he is also part of tru west, a collective he founded with mass prod, rufus and raffaele amenta.

boola is no stranger at all to the vinyl club team. he was amongst the very first customers of the former ibiza record shop that gave birth to vinyl club, and even if this is his first release on the imprint he contributed from the beginning to inspire the crew with his early productions that enlightened the golden days of dc10, some of them being released on the then new born arpiar label a bit less than a decade ago. joining the vinyl club agency in 2013, he is since then sharing the dj booth too with the team for endless sessions at cdv / berlin.

2009s * seventynine* long player helped catapult mirkos profile, not only as a producer, but also as dj, regularly spinning alongside the cadenza crew, and with detroit luminaries such as derrick may and carl craig. and its on this single that mirko invites friend and peer, carl craig, to remix under his c2 guise. wearing his influences on his sleeve, mirko is obviously indebted to the techno music of the motor city, and these classic detroit tropes are certainly used in the building blocks of the original mix of kolor-, a sprawling and pacey intergalactic journey sprinkled with a dusting of xylophones, bells & chimes, as the melody is driven forward for a heady trip across the night skies.
with iyewaye, the first solo-ep after the release of his fifth album i am ok last year, oliver koletzki shows himself in a new, but not altogether unfamiliar light: since his breakthrough in 2005 with der mückenschwarm koletzki hasnt sounded this hard. gone is the pop-angle, replaced by a dark sound-aesthetic and raw energy. but even here, in the techno realm, oliver koletzki demonstrates his inimitable sense for melody: thus, the gloomy and driving framework of iyewaye is lit up by a crystal-clear synth-sequence. similarly, ipuza, which hypnotizes by way of reduction and repetition, is funky in its core thanks to a rolling tribal groove. functional, but with heart and soul.
